Learning

Starting Year 7

Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and we understand that every student’s journey is unique. Our goal is to make the transition to Brighton Secondary College smooth, supportive, and positive for students and families alike.

Victorian Curriculum

At Brighton Secondary College, teaching and learning from Years 7 to 10 are guided by the Victorian Curriculum, which outlines what all students should learn during their first years of secondary education. It provides a common set of knowledge and skills required for lifelong learning, social development, and active citizenship.

The curriculum covers a broad range of learning areas and capabilities, ensuring students experience a balanced and challenging education. Our teachers design engaging programs that cater to different learning needs, support growth, and prepare students for success in their senior years and beyond.

VCE and VCEVM

At Brighton Secondary College, students in Years 11 and 12 can choose between two senior pathways — the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM). Both pathways provide opportunities for students to pursue their interests, develop their skills, and prepare for future study, training, or employment.

The VCE offers a broad academic program leading to university and tertiary study, while the VCE VM focuses on applied learning, practical skills, and workplace experiences that prepare students for vocational training or employment.

Both programs are designed to recognise individual strengths and aspirations, ensuring every student is supported to achieve success in their chosen pathway.

Accelerated Learning

Brighton Secondary College offers a range of accelerated learning opportunities designed to extend and challenge high-achieving students at key stages of their secondary education.
