Our School
As you enter our school, our core values are proudly displayed: Respect, Excellence, Curiosity, Integrity, Teamwork, and Empathy. These values guide our approach to learning, relationships, and community.

Leadership and Vision
In recent years, Brighton Secondary College has established a dynamic and innovative leadership team and structure designed to drive excellence and ensure stability for the future. Under the guidance of Executive Principal Peter Langham, the school is entering a new era of improvement that values high expectations, positive relationships, and strong connections within the school and its wider community.
This revitalised leadership approach reflects the school’s dedication to innovation, inclusion, and achievement, ensuring that Brighton Secondary College is a place where every student can thrive.

Our Learning Culture
Within a learning environment that balances care with academic challenge, our students are supported to work with purpose and aim for success. This approach reflects our belief that learning flourishes when students feel safe to take risks, seek feedback, and strive for improvement.
Our learning culture fosters both academic excellence and personal growth, as seen in the outstanding results our students consistently achieve. Equally important is our commitment to developing well-rounded, hardworking, and resilient young people who understand that effort, grit, and collaboration are key to success. We aim to nurture students who contribute thoughtfully, act with integrity, and make a positive difference to the world around them.

Engagement and Wellbeing
Our approach to Student Engagement, Wellbeing, and Positive Behaviour is grounded in restorative practices, which are embedded across the school. A whole-school approach that ensures clear expectations for students, staff, and families, promoting consistency, connection, and shared responsibility. We focus on building strong, respectful relationships and supporting students to take responsibility for their actions and learn from experiences.

Inclusion, Safety and Respect
The school has a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, antisemitism, and any form of discrimination. Through our Wellbeing Curriculum, we deliver extensive education programs focused on student empowerment, inclusion, and upstander behaviour. Expert providers work in partnership with our staff and students to ensure every student feels safe, valued, and respected.
This is a culture we have built intentionally — one that reflects our commitment to respect, inclusion, and safety for all members of our community. Our practices align with the Victorian Child Safe Standards, ensuring that child safety and wellbeing are embedded in our policies, daily practices, and decision-making across the school.

Teaching and Learning
At Brighton Secondary College, our teaching and learning practices centre on differentiated instruction to ensure every student’s individual needs are met and their learning growth is maximised. We are committed to academic rigour and challenge, encouraging all learners to strive for excellence and reach their full potential.
A key priority is the implementation of our newly developed schoolwide instructional model, designed to bring greater consistency, clarity, and high-impact practice to every classroom.
For students ready to extend themselves, our SEAL (Select Entry Accelerated Learning) program provides academic acceleration from Year 7. Recognising that students grow and develop at different rates, students have the opportunity to apply for VCE acceleration as part of the Year 10 program, undertaking one or 2 VCE Unit 1 and 2 subjects, noting that placement is based on student interest, academic progress, and learning behaviours.

Careers and Pathways
Brighton Secondary College offers extensive careers and pathways counselling to help students make informed decisions as they move into the middle and senior years. By understanding their strengths, interests, and goals, and being well informed about future pathway options, students are set up for success whichever direction they choose.
Parents and carers are an integral part of this process, with opportunities to attend information evenings and connect directly with the Careers and Pathways Team for guidance and support.
With access to both the VCE and VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) programs, students are supported to pursue their aspirations through personalised advice and planning — ensuring every learner is equipped for life beyond school.

Support Structure
Brighton Secondary College is committed to fostering an inclusive culture that supports every student’s learning needs. We identify and respond to individual differences, making practical adjustments to teaching and learning so all students can access the curriculum and achieve success.
Our approach focuses on meeting students at their point of need through evidence-based strategies, collaboration, and targeted support to ensure every learner is equipped to thrive. Parents and carers are integral to this process, particularly where students require adjustments, and open communication and information sharing between home and school are vital to achieving the best outcomes.
